I have recently been in contact with an ex-pat now living in California; a professional sketch artist by the name of Pete Scully. Pete hails from Hornsey Lane, Highgate, and gets very homesick. Fortunately however, whilst he was still in Blighty, Pete filled dozens of sketchbooks with some amazing representations of Highgate. His art really captures the atmosphere of the narrow streets and bustling pubs, and his attention to architectural detail is astonishing. Pete has kindly allowed me to use some of his work to illustrate Hidden Highgate, so expect to see his fantastic work crop up from time to time on here. I have collated some of Pete’s Highgate sketches below, with embedded links to his Flickr account where you can find out more about his passion for the area, and the inspiration behind each illustration. You can also visit Pete’s website,
http://petescully.com/ if you would like to see more of his work, or purchase prints. Please do not reproduce any of the images below without Pete’s consent – all images remain (c) Pete Scully.

So thanks, Pete – and maybe Hidden Highgate will help if only a little with the homesickness – lets hope it doesn’t make it worse!
